Under the IPC, a 2 inch trap arm can run up to 8 feet from the trap weir to the vent (IPC Table 909.1). Under the UPC, a 2 inch trap arm maxes out at 5 feet, and the trap-to-vent fall cannot exceed one pipe diameter (UPC 1002.2 and Table 1002.2). Either code, the trap arm cannot change direction more than a total of 135 degrees without a cleanout, and the fall stays at 1/4 inch per foot unless the AHJ allows otherwise.
